US had taken basketball for granted and the opinion of Jerry Colangelo summed it up. NBA players had to be given chauffered limousines and five star accomodation, since none of them were interested in playing the game during their vacation period. Not that they werent patriotic or anything, it was just the fact that there had been no competition. Now things have changed and the Americans have a different attitude. I havent heard of the US team practising for the olympics as they had done before this tournament and they have established a division to control USA basketball with strict schedules and practices. Something which is great to see..

Its good to see the end of U.S. dominance. I remember how Barkley barked during the Barcelona or the Atlanta Olympics that the only way any other team could win the gold medal was by getting into their room and stealing it. Also, the Dream Team caused a lot of animosity within the U.S. Olympics team..they got chauffered limousines and five star accomodation while the teams from the other sports got buses and had to stay at the village.

I was able to catch a few FIBA games on tv this weekend and have to accept that USA could face stiff competition. Right now I think that USA may not win this competition. They are playing a lot of individual basketball. The reason they are able to win games is pure talent. Something which they have in abundance. But I will still hold on to my predictions and we shall look forward to the rest.

At last a post on basketball. Despite an all star roster, I dont think the Americans will be able to blow by any of the top 4 teams in the world. You said it right, defense and teamwork are the key elements to win the championship. I would still pick USA to win it, but not by a double digit margin of victory in the finals. Spain would be my next choice. Pau Gasol's team looks well rounded and could beat the Argentinians in the semi-finals.
