yeah KP heard me! Its very early in his career but all signs point to the fact that he is a champion cricketer! I think Australia will wrap it up by lunch. (lets see if I get this prediction right!)
And hope Duncan sees the light and plays Monty in the second test!

It seems KP heard you. Good counter-attacking innings, with Collingwood providing ample support.
If KP lasts 2 sessions tomorrow - the test match could get exciting, and England could realistically think of saving the game. There is also a good opportunity for Giles to justify his inclusion over Monty. If he could deliver those 30 -40 runs or more importantly last 2 hours, it will silence those critics (including yours truly) atleast for the next test.
Happy that England showed some grit atlast!

Absolutely. it makes no sense at all. He has been playing well and Giles has just returned from a long lay off! The English need great performances from guys like Flintoff and KP tomorrow.

it's criminal that monty has left out! as tim de lisle has said, it's the worst English selection decision since Gower wasn't picked for the India series in 1992-93 (the Anil Kumble series).

the poms will get mauled for sure. And my money on 3-1 Australia - and the 1 to england will be in the dead rubber

Monty not playing is a very retrogressive move.
Playing Giles for his extra 20 runs is a fatal mistake... Can't see the guy bowl the Aussies out, or even apply the brakes. And with players like Hussey in the middle order - its a no- brainer that might cost them the Brisbane test.
From the commentary I followed for a good part of the first day, Harmison was outta sorts and Hoggard was inept. God save the poms. They don't even have Trescothick!

i hope that isnt the course.

i think it was a travesty that Monty didnt get to play. potentially matchwinning bowler vs a dibbly dobbly left armer returning from injury?? its a no brainer!!

@ Kesavan: 346-3 at the end of day 1. Is this going to be the course of the series? I think so.

@Harish: What about Monty.

Prediction - 4-1 Aussies.
Hussey is going to create some kinda record this Ashes. My player of the series pick.

Optimistic 2-1 Australia.
Pessimistic 3-0 Aussies.

It all depends on the first test.
