The liveries of 2007…
Posted by raju on February 14th, 2007
Colour is doing the rounds as one of the most talked about aspects of the 2007 season, even after discounting Lewis Hamilton from the headlines. Car launches have been revealing liveries ranging from the innovative to the ghastly. Liveries have been as much a part of a formula 1 car as its design and performance is. So what paint job does the machines of 2007 boast of?
Ferrari
Rating: 9 / 10
As far as liveries go, Ferrari continues to rule. The designers have gone all red obliterating whatever little white that remained before. The F2007 is all Ferrari although the ‘Vodafone’ logo is conspicuous by its absence. However the Ferrari livery loses out on the ‘best looking’ livery on the grid to their main rivals.Â
McLaren
Rating: 10 / 10
McLaren has the best looking livery on the grid. Over the past few years the McLaren’s have slowly been morphing from black to chrome. The MP4-22 is all silver with a bit of red thrown in. It looks sleek as hell while remaining simplistic and smooth flowing with accented curves. Definitely the meanest looking machine on the grid.

Renault
Rating: 2/10
Imagine orange, imagine blue, imagine white and imagine yellow and imagine if someone threw up all these colours. You would have imagined the Renault livery. The only good thing about the renault livery is that its just the interim one. First, they put Fisichella as the lead driver. Then they unveil this visual crime. What next?

Honda
Rating : NA
Honda have not yet revealed their livery. But the news is that its going to be green and it is going to be a surprise. Hope they also surprise us with their performace.
Williams
Rating: 4 / 10
No surprises - pleasant or unpleasant - here. Williams’ livery sports the same white and violet, cut-edged look popular perhaps in the late 90s.

Red Bull
Rating: 4 / 10
No radical changes from 2006. Red Bull’s livery continues to look unassuming and dull.

Toro Rosso
Rating: 5 / 10
Looks more radical and inspired than red bulls’. However it looks too cluttered and is not very easy on the eye.

So, who do you think has the best looking livery on the grid?

the mclaren looks slick… the ferrari will look a bit wierd without the ubiquitous vodafone they had all along.. the renault is hideous and is indeed a visual crime.. a far cry from the pleasing blue n yellow they had

I know this was written some time back. now all all the livery are out, this post needs a update. Firstly the Honda’s myearthdream concept is definitely the most debatable livery in history of the sport.
And secondly, i dissent from ur view and rating. firstly u seem to contradict yourself when it comes to Ferrari’s livery vis-a-vis Williams and red bull’s. Ferrari has turned more red with the departure of their last year’s mail sponsor Vodafone, now Ferrari has been red ever since the beginning. But this doesn’t amount to boring and u rate them a 9, while Williams which has stuck to its combination of Blue and white, but in a different scheme u rate them a poor 4. Ferrari with the complete red looks sad, its needs that limited white to make it not look like a red blur when it is racing. I think the Williams has the best livery of the season. It looks neat and cluttered like the Renault, though I approve the rating to Renault. McLaren’s chrome theme doesnt go too far with me, i referred the pre-chrome, the black/grey was one of the best livery of all time in my books.
And about Honda’s myearthdream environmental theme, saying its different is an understatement! at first glance I approved of it, this was just one picture that was got my hacking the honda’s website before it was launched, but later images throws up somewhat different views. I not totally against it, have to wait until i see it race.

Ferrari’s red is aggressive and exciting while Williams’ blue and white is staid and boring…but thats just my opinion…
and i loved the pre-chrome days of mclaren…but the chrome looks awesome too, though i am still wishing at least one car on track would run on black…honda’s test liveries are black and they would have done well to use it on the race too…black is the ultimate cool colour for racing machines…
and honda’s livery…they had to do something…not many sponsors!…i dont like the livery though…cant even picture the patch of green and blue running on a race track….
