Man United sign Anderson and Nani
Posted by Z on May 30th, 2007
Well, United’s summer has certainly started in an explosive fashion. According to a statement on the official website, it looks like the club has signed two young starlets from FC Porto- Nani and Anderson. Definitely looks like two potential replacements for Scholes and Giggs. And Sir Alex has always been exceptional in the way he has handled potential superstars. It is going to be interesting to see how he handles the two next season.

Mihir- for Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba you still have Scholes, G. Neville, Giggs, and Beckham. And Kleberson wasn’t exactly young, was he?
I never said Fergie is brilliant in the transfer market just that he is good at handling young people. The way he handled becks after 98 WC and Ronaldo after 06 WC was absolutely brilliant.
And regarding Chelsea and Liverpool- what is your point?! Let me see what you say once Kroenke finishes his acquisition!!

What’s with arsenal fans and their hectoring tone? All of em cloak their arguments with either aggression or profanities.

I am bemused by Mihir’s comments. The players that he mentions were never potential superstars. Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba were bought as squad players, and admittedly didn’t work out. But what does that prove? There has not been a manager in history who hasn’t made mistakes in the transfer market. The only real gauge of ability concerning all managerial roles, is in the success that they bring to a club. Sir Alex’s record suggests that he has been fairly successful in most area’s.

The difference between Kleberson, Djemba-Djemba & likes of Scholes, Giggs & Beckham is that the earlier ones were bought from abroad to fill up holes in the midfield while the latter ones were home grown youngsters. Anyway my point was that instead of hyping up these new signings as replacements for Giggs, Scholes and likes, its better to wait and watch ….. there have been too many hypes of replacing ManU’s midfield over the last 3-4 years.
The point for Chelsea-Liverpool thing is, most sports commentators nowadays seem to be biased in favour of Liverpool. When Chelsea spent big, everyone blasted them. But i havent seen one single site or blog doing even a fraction of that towards the planned spending by Kroenke/Benitez and likes.
Z - Just as being a ManU fan entitles you to hate Henry/Arsenal/Wenger and likes, beign a Arsenal supporter gives me the equal right to hate ManU, Spurs and likes and add a fair bit of aggression/profanities in my comments. BTW i can’t see any profanities in my argument above, maybe you can point out some ?

Damian - Only now can you say that Djemba-Djemba & Kleberson were not potential superstars. If you recall the headlines on BBC and other news sites (sorry i am not in UK so cant read newspapers), they were hailed by the ManU staff and reporters to be Roy Keans replacements and blah blah blah. Of course things did not work out, so now you can claim they were bought as squad players.
Secondly, i dont deny that Ferguson has got a lot of success on the pitch. I was not saying ferguson is a unsuccesful manager, only commenting on signings of Nani & Anderson.

Arsenal supporters always seem to have a holier than thou mindset… Diving being a prime subject.
The fact that Arsenals side is on a shoestring budget is not ManU, Chelsea or Liverpools fault!!
Also, Liverpool have not yet spent big.. They only plan to and we have to wait and watch how BIG! Chelsea have already spent BIG.. Infact they have redefined BIG.. They spent big to buy almost a whole squad!! Whereas ManU spends big only on a handful of players, not the whole squad..

ManU havent spent big on the squad ?? Have a look at the current squad - Ferdinand, Evra, Vidic, Ronaldo, Carrick, Rooney - they were bought at sums which were not minuscle by any means. Besides I am not raving about big spendingm but merely pointing out how most ManU & Liverpool fans went on and on about how Chelsea have bought the title which they dont deserve and blah blah, but now that Liverpool is “planning” to do the same, all they can come up with is praises for Benitez and co.

evra for 5 million and vidic for 7 million are not wat u call big.. n ronaldo was a snip at 12 something million..
n ferguson broke the bank for rooney, carrick & ferdinand over different seasons and not in one summer transfer as chelsea threatened to do uptil this season!!

btw i never said chelsea ‘bought’ the title

@Mihir:
No doubt United have spent big and also on a lot of duds! And no doubt both Arsenal and Liverpool will spend more in the coming seasons. But surely it cant be compared to what Chelsea has done?
Funnily enough, Sidwell and Pizzaro have come free!
